He came into the hospital not knowing if he would make it another day with the heart issues he was experiencing, but Hannah’s vivacious smile brought him positive vibes, peace, and joy when he was able to return home.
Hannah was nominated by a patient. The veteran was very appreciative of Hannah. He said she took care of him with the utmost enthusiasm of any nurse he has had care for him in his 76 years of life, and she is one of the most caring people he has ever met. Hannah made absolutely sure the Veteran was comfortable in every way. He stated that if the IV machine alarmed she was in the room within seconds, the IV line ended up getting air in it due to the medicine he was taking he said she helped adjust the line without any hesitation and did it with smile on her face the entire time. Hannah brought the Veteran clean clothes when an accident occurred, moved his bed around to be closer to the chair and bathroom, and replaced his IV in his arm when it went bad, all while visiting with the Veteran. He said he never felt the new prick in his arm and she changed it with such ease. Again the Veteran said she did it with a smile on her face and reassured him to let her know if he needed anything and everything is going to get better. She treated him as a daughter would treat their own Father and tried to keep the Veteran in good spirits, and made sure to reinforce the positive news his Heart Doctor was relaying. He said if the VA had 200 more Hannahs that would change the world for his fellow Veterans. He came into the hospital not knowing if he would make it another day with the heart issues he was experiencing, but Hannah’s vivacious smile brought him positive vibes, peace, and joy when he was able to return home. He said he can’t thank Hannah enough for her outstanding care, not only for him but also for his brother and sisters, who may have to spend time at the Iowa City VA ICU.
