Bernis shows exemplary care for her staff and the high-acuity patient population in the Emergency Department. The safety of our patients and our staff has always been her top priority! She is truly passionate about her staff and patients as she wants to ensure we provide the best care to EVERY patient in the ED. She is thoughtful and compassionate in everything she does! The increase in the Behavior Mental Health population in the ED is no surprise to most, and Bernis has truly shined as she leads our team through the management of this challenging population. A well-known patient with a history of aggression presented to the ED that had previously harmed Children's employees. This patient had been very difficult to manage, and a multitude of resources have been necessary to manage her care and the safety of those who care for her. Bernis stepped up as a true leader in formulating a plan for her most recent visit to the ED. Four days into this visit, the patient required immediate interventions and due to the quick actions and proactive plans Bernis assisted with formulating, she ensured not only the safety of the patient but her staff as well. She was very organized and calm which was greatly appreciated by her team. She was a true leader in a precarious situation. The Emergency Department is very lucky to have her as one of our valued frontline leaders.
