Nurse Tewfic Sirhan was like a glowing Angel. My mother felt at peace with him.
Today could have been my mother’s last day if it had not been for the emergency and medical professionals and their quick response. From the 911 operator to the EMTs and the Henry Ford Wyandotte ER team, but also because of a very attentive and gentle nurse who stayed by her side once everyone went on to attend to another patient.
Nurse Tewfic Sirhan not only made sure that my mother was OK, but that I was OK as well. I watched and observed him throughout the course of the night. Every question was answered, and every procedure was performed. He was very careful in the way he had to lift her up because of her spinal stenosis from her neck to her lower back. Some people act as if they care but he genuinely showed it, and it was heartfelt. I do believe that everyone cared and was greatly concerned for her life, but he stood out because he was the one who was left behind, and his attentiveness did not go unnoticed. That really matters to a patient and their families when lines are hard and bleak. I may not know all the things and the stress that they were all going through, but I am forever grateful for them in saving her life.
Nurse Tewfic Sirhan was like a glowing Angel. My mother felt at peace with him. He held her hand when she needed it and soothed her with calming words and gentle touch. I just couldn’t let that go unnoticed and not let you all know about this nurse who walks with an invisible halo. It’s hard being on the outside looking in but he always checked on me to see if I was OK and if I needed anything, whether it was a warm blanket or an honest answer, he showed compassion, and it was genuinely felt. If I could have given him a hug, I would have because we appreciate him for going above and beyond his nursing duties. So, I nominate him for a DAISY Award for being a caring and compassionate professional who went above and beyond to make sure that we were both okay throughout the night.
Thank you, Tewfic, for being our superhero! If everyone acted like him, I wouldn’t worry at all. Training can be taught, but compassion comes from a good heart, and he has a good one. He stayed number one, he was gentle and quick, alongside being meek and humble. Some nurses really are great, and he’s one of them!
