I arrived at MVH’s emergency room via the squad with a severely injured left hand that I was terrified I would lose. I was very scared when in walked Mackenzie who greeted me with her tender smile. She immediately got me comfortable and showed tremendous empathy for me and my condition. She got me settled in quietly with oxygen and a blood pressure machine and inserted an IV needle without any additional discomfort. She expedited pain med meds to control my pain. Throughout the afternoon, Mackenzie was very attentive in monitoring my pain level and vital signs which were important to me as I was extremely worried about my hand. She has a real gift for effectively interacting with the other nurses, ancillary staff, and physicians as they attended to me. She was so friendly and assuring all afternoon which kept my anxiety level to a minimum.

Later in the afternoon, my wife who was with me, began to experience low blood sugar from not eating for so long. Mackenzie was on it and immediately left, returning with a sandwich and juice to help with her situation. We were so appreciative of her effort and kindness, not only for me, the patient but for my wife as well. That is why we feel strongly about nominating Mackenzie for the DAISY Award: her service was exemplary and caring. Her experience and professionalism is a great plus for MVH and a real keeper. You are the best, Mackenzie, and we will never forget you!
