Being able to completely trust the care of a fragile child to someone else and know without a doubt that she is getting the best care is more than any parent could ever ask for.
We have had home health nursing for our 10-year-old daughter for six years, and Nikki is by far one of the most incredible nurses we have ever had the pleasure of caring for our daughter. Every day, she goes above and beyond what we could ever ask for. Recently, I came home unexpectedly and found Nikki doing therapy with our daughter without being asked or told to do so. When I mentioned it to her, she said, "Well, I know school therapy is done for the summer, so she's getting less therapy time, so I wanted to make sure I took the time to get some extra therapy in for her." I can't explain what it did to my mommy heart to know that when I'm not here, her nurse is taking such amazing care of her. Every shift, Nikki finds new ways to impress me, like knowing we have iron infusions at the hospital and making sure she has all the meds we are going to need ready and everything packed for our daughter ahead of time so I don't have to do as much. Or taking my daughter for walks to make sure she's getting fresh air. Or digging through toy bins to find new sensory toys to keep my daughter engaged. Or watching and interacting with my daughter's different therapists to learn new ways to help with OT, PT, and vision. I truly wish the nursing field had thousands more Nikki's out there. She is paving the way for what a truly great home health nurse should be. Being able to completely trust the care of a fragile child to someone else and know without a doubt that she is getting the best care is more than any parent could ever ask for.

Sincerely, Mom to a 10-year-old with Cerebral Palsy, Infantile spasms, CVI, severe scoliosis, Non-verbal, Non-mobile, and g-tube dependent.
