As I told him, he didn't just help save my life; he gave me a new one.
I'm nominating Nurse Phillip because he changed my life. In 2023, I had a major reaction to the Human metapneumovirus, which occurred in an ER unit and, as told to me later, ultimately landed me in the Intensive Care Unit on life support at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. I was sedated, almost coma-like, for stability and transferred there by ambulance. I had been on a breathing machine and passed out, so I don't remember anything much until the moment that changed my life, and I owe it to Nurse Phillip. You see, Phillip was the one that woke me up in the ICU. At the time, I didn't realize how significant that moment was then, but as days passed, I came to understand it was monumental. It was how he woke me up, the words he said, and how he said it. When he explained that I couldn't talk, he gave me a clipboard, and we continued communicating. He answered my questions honestly and with great care. His demeanor and endearing approach set me on a course of recovery that continues to this day. I decided then that I was safe, protected, and going to be all right, and I committed myself to doing everything I could to return to a normal way of life.
Since then, I discovered Scott is considered one of your best caretakers, and my moment was not the exception but his standard. I know he is making a difference in many lives on a daily basis. Recently, I qualified for a zephyr valve procedure and, due to the protocols, had to spend three nights back in the same ICU for observation due to the possibility of a collapsed lung. When Nurse Scott found out I was there, he came to visit me. I cried; I was so taken aback. I believe all the nurses in the ICU, along with the doctors, are angels on this Earth.
To me, Nurse Phillip personifies the excellence with which these servants perform. His attitude, kindness, talent, and effort stand out, yet he still blends as a team member with the goal of making everyone better. I don't know what more you could ask of a person in these challenging circumstances. I tell all my friends and family about Nurse Phillip all the time, and for the rest of my life, I will be blessed by him and eternally grateful for his help. As I told him, he didn't just help save my life; he gave me a new one. I think he deserves recognition. Thank you for considering this special person.
