It was her hands that extended to mine when the baby was delivered. In the heat of the moment, she was collected, organized, and assertive. I felt encouraged and supported by our team, including Alexandra.
Alexandra has been an incredible asset to our L&D for years and I’ve really enjoyed having her both as a colleague and my nurse during my own labor. Most recently however, she stepped up as a real leader during some tough cases. I don’t want the year to close without sharing my thoughts about Alexandra during one of those cases.
We recently had a perimortem cesarean section in the emergency room. Thankfully, these are rare events and, therefore, difficult to prepare for. They are also very difficult to be a part of given the nature of our field. Alexandra was one of the first to go down to the emergency room when we became aware of the case. She prepared the warmer, set up what was needed in preparation for NICU, and called me to the bay even before the code C was able to be announced overhead. She stayed with us throughout the process. It was her hands that extended to mine when the baby was delivered. In the heat of the moment, she was collected, organized, and assertive. I felt encouraged and supported by our team, including Alexandra.
After our debrief, Alexandra was also kind and made an effort to create a healing environment for the L&D team in attendance. It is because of nurses like Alexandra that make me proud of the L&D team we have, the team we are building and the collaboration we inspire. I believe Alexandra needs to be recognized officially for everything she did during that event and more.
