She has the knowledge and the skills, but the really important part of nursing is compassion and selfless dedication.
"Above & beyond the call of duty." I am a retired RN, and my daughter and niece are RNs as well. I was at Ocean University Medical Center, at my husband's bedside, for 8-10 hours, for the 12 days he was there. I had met and was impressed by Bree on my husband's last admission two years ago when he broke his back, and our lives changed forever. That previous time and even more so this admission, she stood out above all the rest, in the midst of my nightmare. After my husband fell, he did not return home for 8 months. Then, he came home in a hospital bed and was in total care. Being a nurse myself for many years, I can spot a real "angel of mercy." She was professional, and her excellence was visible to me. I felt "no worries" when she was his nurse. She is what I hope I was when I worked, she is the "whole package." But most of all, she has what often has slipped away, as years have passed. She has the heart of a true "angel of mercy." Her devotion to every tiny detail was outstanding, yet she took time to show her compassion both for my husband's suffering as well as the agony of watching it. I often say, "I married a saint," and we were blessed to have the care and compassion of Bree, an Extraordinary Nurse. Nursing isn't easy, the demands on them are extensive. She gives her all, her best, to each patient and their upset family. She has the knowledge and the skills, but the really important part of nursing is compassion and selfless dedication. She should definitely receive the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. God bless her future as her "light" shines bright as I recall the nurses I worked with and experienced over my life of 75 years. J, my love of a lifetime, is at home starting on home hospice with me and my family.
