She truly cares about her patients, and it shows in her empathy and compassion. Thank you for truly listening to me, making me feel like all of my concerns are valid, and making me a part of the decision-making. I appreciate you!
Alexia Smith is the best kind of nurse. A genuine human who consistently exemplifies why nurses are considered some of the most honorable and trusted professionals. She Lives our OhioHealth values in every way. One of the first compliments Lexie received was when a patient wrote a "Power of One," stating, "What can I say about this wonderful nurse. I think she sets the standard of what a nurse should be: kind, knowledgeable, caring, considerate.". She gives this same experience to all her patients.

Lexie has worked on our unit for a little over a year. During that time, she has made a huge impact on the lives of the patients we serve. She is humble and kind and likely doesn’t realize the enormous difference she has made in the lives of her patients.

In April Lexi spoke with a patient, and he was speaking to her about how he always gets his wife a gift for Easter. After her shift, she went and bought flowers and a card for the patient to give to his wife. This was such a sweet and thoughtful gesture. This act just shows how sweet and kind Lexi is when it comes to her patients.

I’m writing this as the patient myself. I have had Alexia for two nights of my inpatient stay here on the unit. I was told by my doctor that I would have to have surgery. Of course, this comes with stress and anxiety. My first night on the unit I woke up sweating, chest pain and “freaking out”. Lexi was right there by my side the entire time, helping me slow my breathing, talk through what was going on, grabbing my prn meds. Her calmness and empathy in the moment helped me feel like whatever was going on was going to be okay! She did all the things to make sure it was heart-related, and it wasn’t. I was having a panic attack in my sleep. She was quick to reach out to the physician to ask for prn anxiety meds, and I had those right away! She talked to me, listened to me, and helped me with a stressful situation. Tonight was the same way. I had an issue with a chronic illness, and Lexi took the time to LISTEN to me and understand my meds completely. Reaching out to the on-call dr. I have been in the hospital quite a few times in my life, and when I say she is one of the best nurses I have ever had, I mean it. She truly cares about her patients, and it shows in her empathy and compassion. Thank you for truly listening to me, making me feel like all of my concerns are valid, and making me a part of the decision-making. I appreciate you!

In March, a patient was so very thankful for Lexi, she was having a panic attack, and Lexi showed compassion and helped comfort her. She was so grateful and mentioned her in leadership rounds. Thank you, for representing out floor in such a great way!

In December, Alexia took it upon herself to purchase and bring in several gift items for one of her patients. The patient reported having the best Christmas he has had in years. Alexia contributed to giving this experience to this patient. You could see the happiness and support felt by this patient through such compassion. He was happier today than he has been in many weeks. You have such a compassionate heart, and we are thankful for you.

Another patient submitted a "Power of One," stating, "Lexie was very comforting and helpful and helped us through our hardest journey while in the hospital."

In May, a patient brought attention to the compassionate, quality care Lexie provided him shift after shift. The patient stated Lexie really took care of his pain. Thank you for providing such compassionate care! If anyone deserves to be recognized, it is Alexia Smith, LPN from 2 South Medical Surgical unit at Marion General Hospital. She truly shows empathy to every patient and is the best example of what makes an exemplary nurse.
