Patrick is an exemplary nurse whose skill set helped de-escalate an anxious family and restless patient near end-of-life. Patrick demonstrated remarkable leadership strength in his role as a charge nurse. His leadership can be summed up as providing massive support, excellent communication, and ease of meeting patients’ needs. Patrick committed time, hours, and support to a complicated family. His demeanor was awesome, his affirmation of the family’s feelings was superb, and his bedside manner was exceptional. He communicated with ease with the family, so much so that they left smiling and said, “We finally felt heard.”

He always puts the needs of others, especially patients, first and this is why he deserves the DAISY Award. This family will leave our hospital feeling better than when they came, and it’s because of his efforts. What a great nurse!
