Following abdominal radiography for a possible bowel obstruction, an oral contrast agent caused excessive and prolonged diarrhea, which began while still in radiology. The expectation was to make one more two trips to the bathroom and it would be over. Not so. During the dozen or more trips to the toilet, while still in radiology, I was on my own in dealing with the repeated mess.

After some time, I was transferred to my room. The episodes of sudden diarrhea continued but this time I wasn’t alone. Kiana Landsman immediately took charge and helped me until the episodes passed. During this time of help, Kiana was calm, professional, and extremely caring. Despite the nature of this event, which is not pleasant, and ripe for embarrassment, she was posed and knew exactly what to do, which made me feel at ease and cared for.

Nurses and doctors were professional and polite during my hospital stay at Dignity Health Northridge. However, the care provided by Kiana stands out since that care went beyond what could be acquired only through training. Her intelligence and empathy provided me with exceptional care, which seems to come naturally to her. In every profession, there are many satisfactory levels of ability and skills. In Kiana’s case, her ability and skills are at the highest level of nursing.
