She has been kind, funny, and respectful, and she always has a listening ear for what I need to tell her.
Charlie - what can I say? She has been here since Primary care was started ( 31 years ago). She is an amazing nurse whom her veterans LOVE. She has gone above and beyond for years for the VA and primary care. When I first came to the VA, she trained me and made sure I knew the VA way, which was very important to her.
Integrity is something Charlie demonstrates daily. Her veterans trust her in their care; when Charlie is out, they are always asking where Charlie is; she hasn't left us, has she?
Commitment- Charlie truly serves the veterans. She goes the extra mile to ensure their care is done. For example, she attends most HONOR FLIGHTS, and she sings and greets the veterans back home on her own time.
Advocacy- She goes above and beyond to be a true advocate. She calls veterans after hours to ensure they understand their labs and if they have any questions.
Respect- She provides dignity and respect to veterans and their families. She is always giving extra information that is helpful to the veteran, such as information for the honor flight and helping them sign up for the honor flight, and much more.
Excellence- She once upon a time helped create a special diabetic clinic to decrease the team's A1C. Charlie devoted extra time and education to ensure the veterans understood the need to decrease their A1C.
I do feel Charlie is an IMPORTANT part of primary care and very deserving of this award. She has been our mother hen for several years and is always looking for ways to guide us and help us to be better veterans.

It took me years to go back to the VA. The first person I interacted with was Charlie in Primary Care. She has been kind, funny, and respectful, and she always has a listening ear for what I need to tell her. It seems to me she exemplifies all aspects of the ICARE principles with each visit. She truly cares about her Veterans, and it shows. She has greatly helped get this old vet to trust the VA.
