Many call it the nurse curse, and if that’s what I had because I’m a fellow nurse, I’m thankful that I had all of the amazing nurses at Lowell by my side. It was a traumatic, emergent situation of giving birth to our son Z on a Monday night. On Tuesday morning, we were introduced to our nurse, Bri. She was energetic and positive which is exactly what we needed at this time. Unfortunately, I did start going through another nurse curse where Bri used her best nursing skills and, although probably the most pain I’ve ever felt, was able to assist in my care until it was decided that I needed to go to the OR. Without going into all of the details of the eventful nurse curse, we were lucky that each day after, we had Bri assisting in my care. She was able to ever so slightly push me to get me to where I should be in recovery. Each day, she asked, “Still my L?” Just to add a little bit of humor in this traumatic experience.

Being a nurse admitted to the hospital, not being able to hold your new son, and trying to personally recover emotionally and physically, we are fortunate to have nurses like Bri to be by your side. She was compassionate in understanding that although a nurse myself, I still was unfamiliar to the specialty that she was so well versed in. Each day, my husband and I looked forward to our next steps with Bri.

As I’m sitting here in the special care nursery spending time with our new son Z, filling this out, we like knowing that Bri is on the unit giving this care to the next mother who just delivered and needs her empathy and knowledge. We were so fortunate to be here at Lowell, and we want to thank you for the amazing care that we received from all of the nurses, aides, and doctors. Bri is a true DAISY Nurse.
