From the moment I was given my surgery date, I was contemplating canceling it. The fear I had going into it was horrible and while I can say that every single person that I interacted with the day of my surgery treated me exceptionally well, there was one person in particular who stood out to me. The entire time I sat there waiting to be taken back to the OR, my thoughts were taking over, and I was still contemplating walking out...then the OR nurse came in and introduced herself as Cassie. From that moment, I started telling her how I was feeling, and she never once left my side. She calmed every rational and irrational fear. She constantly reassured me, and for the FIRST time ever since I first received my surgery date, I felt safe... extremely safe with her there. She stayed by my side, never once distracted in another conversation. She made me feel both seen and heard. She was there with me until I fell asleep with the anesthesia. I can confidently say that because of her, my biggest fear turned out to be the greatest experience. I would have no hesitation going through this procedure or any other again If I knew that she would be there, and THAT is why I nominate Cassie.
