She was most certainly a bright light in a very dark time, as my father passed away the next morning. Her professionalism, competency, and compassion were outstanding.
My father arrived at TJ through the ER with what we thought were complications of COPD and lingering COVID. Little did we know that in a few short hours that he would pass away. This being one of the worst times of our lives, Staci stepped up not only to provide excellent care to my father but also to care for us as a family. Under the circumstances, this is exactly what we needed. Staci Champlain was an amazing nurse who answered all of our questions and explained in detail the negative and positive outcomes of our decisions. She was kind with her words and deeds. She treated us with respect for our decisions and our choices. Not one time did she try to force any of her own opinions. Many people talk about good communication skills and how listening is so very important, but few carry it through. She was a fabulous communicator. She listened, and we never had to repeat ourselves as she stored away accurate information. We asked for explanations about what was happening with my father, and she explained outstandingly despite the circumstances. When she left her shift, we were sad to see her go, but hopeful to see her the next morning. Fortunately, she was my father’s nurse again the next morning. While my father’s stay at TJ was short (about 25 hours from start to finish), she was most certainly a bright light in a very dark time, as my father passed away the next morning. Her professionalism, competency, and compassion were outstanding. Her actions and information allowed us the honor of being beside my father, holding his hand when he left this world. I cannot emphasize enough how important this was. My mother and I will forever be thankful and grateful for Staci Champlain. She is the complete nurse. While providing excellent care to my father, she also helped my family navigate some very difficult decisions. Kudos to Staci Champlain!
