The amount of thoughtfulness she invests into reaching some of our hardest-to-engage families is truly unmatched.
Susan is the heart (made of pure gold) of our division, literally always. The amount she invests in every single patient, as well as all of our divisions, is more than I can explain fully in words. She always has a welcoming smile, listening ear, validating heart, and wise (very wise!!!) mind- for every family but also all of our staff. The amount of thoughtfulness she invests into reaching some of our hardest-to-engage families is truly unmatched. At one point, she was making so many extra calls (on top of an already busy phone schedule) to try to get some of these patients to attend.
Susan is our nurse on our sickle cell team and is always willing to go above and beyond to reach these highly stressed (and in some cases guarded due to past experiences and challenges in the health system) families. She does so with so much poise, empathy, love, and understanding. She's also a wealth of knowledge following all she's done across her impressive career. I think she's known and/or treated almost every single kid with cancer in the entire region in some capacity and often knows their personal story (and I'm honestly not exaggerating!). Susan also jumps at the opportunity to help organize social events for our division in service of supporting our staff. We are so (SO!) incredibly lucky to have Susan as part of our team. She's done so much good for our division and brings so much joy. She very much deserves every bit of a DAISY recognition! Every team should have a Susan!
