Taylor voluntarily sacrificed her weekends to work with us every Saturday over the entire summer to make sure our patients were taken care of safely and without any hiccups.
Taylor and Gabi are operating room nurses at UNC Rex Healthcare. They are both exemplary in multiple ways. Their dedication, compassion, and genuine interest in the breast cancer patients we care for are well above and beyond average. Anytime there is a question, a problem, or any sort of issue with a breast surgery they aren’t involved in they are the “go-to” nurses for help and are always willing to do so. A couple of years ago our breast surgery division lost two of our four breast surgeons to retirement or relocation within two months, which obviously left us in a bind. My partner and I decided we had to operate on weekends as well as our busy weekly schedules to continue to care for patients entrusted to us. Taylor and Gabi voluntarily sacrificed their weekends to work with us every Saturday over the entire summer to make sure our patients were taken care of safely and without any hiccups. They both have continued to do so on a less frequent (but whenever needed) basis. In addition to being the best OR nurse teammates a surgeon could possibly imagine from a work ethic standpoint, they are both extremely knowledgeable, interested in learning and are excellent teachers to other staff members. Despite having four kids and three pets Gabi is furthering her nursing education via online classes on her own time. Taylor has a toddler, and several pets yet is involved in multiple committees around the OR as well. Despite being two of the most efficient nurses at UNC REX, they both bring a sense of calm to what can be a very hectic environment. In short, there aren’t two nurses who deserve special recognition more than Taylor and Gabi. They are deserving of this DAISY Award.
