Alana Weldy is an amazing nurse who goes above and beyond for all of her patients, her co-workers, and her capstone students. Each day of capstone I get to observe new ways that she advocates for her patients. If someone asks for something, she goes out of her way to help them or at least find them answers. She has a way of comforting patients that is so inspiring to me as a future nurse. She even seeks resources to improve patient well-being post-discharge. If Alana ever has a free moment during work, she does not sit and rest at the nurse’s station. Instead, she makes sure her patients are settled and then goes to see where she can be helpful to her coworkers. She is constantly helping others and is the perfect embodiment of what it means to be a good nurse. I am so grateful to be learning from a nurse like her and can already see the ways in which she is shaping me into a good nurse. She finds opportunities for me to learn and sets up demonstrations for me so I get plenty of practice. She brings in teaching moments to every situation and checks in with me after seeing difficult things to make sure I am okay. She brings light and humor to each day and genuinely lifts everyone’s spirits. I could not ask for a better nurse mentor, the other nurses on her unit couldn’t ask for a better more helpful coworker, and her patients couldn’t ask for a better nurse. Alana Weldy is the best nurse who is more than deserving of this DAISY Award. She should have an award for every shift she has ever worked because she brings her all every day!
