Shadia has compassion coupled with caring, immaculate skills, and attention to detail, and she is an articulate patient advocate.
On a Sunday, Nurse Shadia Aburmishan, admitted my severely handicapped cerebral palsy son to 3 South. I was panic-stricken as this was my son's 3rd trip by ambulance from his nursing home to a hospital in 4 weeks. After 3 weeks in other hospitals for aspiratory pneumonia, I was terrified that he would not survive. Shadia assured me that, as a mother, she understood my feelings and assured me that he would get the best care. She told me all the things that were being done for him to support his well-being.
During the ensuing days, Shadia was also his nurse, and I observed her meticulous hard work and superior nursing skills. She has compassion coupled with caring, immaculate skills, and attention to detail, and she is an articulate patient advocate.
She was a nursing assistant prior to becoming an RN, and recognizing the strain on her nursing assistant coworkers, she performed this job as well.
Shadia worked relentlessly to coordinate a complicated discharge arrangement for my son...She spoke with the MDs, social services, respiratory services, and my son's nursing home so that he could receive his 4-hour IV infusion and then spend 2 hours with me at our home before going back to the nursing home.
Shadia is an Extraordinary Nurse and human being and should be commended.
I am the legal guardian and mother of a young cerebral palsy man with a trach and feeding tube. He is the love of my life, and I gave up my career as a hospital administrator to take care of him full-time with the assistance of caregivers. I worked under the Senior Vice President of Nursing at a hospital before receiving my MBA and learned to appreciate the qualities of excellent nurses. Shadia is a true DAISY Nurse.
