My boyfriend was admitted and moved to the 2nd floor from the 4th floor. Katelyn was his nurse a couple of days later for the first time and they connected immediately! J, my boyfriend, and also the patient, is still here 2 weeks later as he has a very large open wound in his perineal area. This spot, of course, has caused a number of complications and uncomfortable situations. For the first few days, after every b.m, he had to depend on them to clean him, flush and clean the wound, and when necessary, change the drapings over the wounded area. Over the next few days, he had another surgery and ended up having a colostomy bag. He no longer had to be wiped after a b.m, but now he needed assistance with emptying and replacing the bag. Katelyn has been his nurse for almost every day that she has worked. On a few occasions, she has been the charge nurse on shift, and also, one day, she was both. No matter her role for the day, she always answered any call in a very timely manner, made sure to check on him and I throughout her shifts, she found answers for any questions we had, kept us informed on every level. Katelyn never complained, seemed bothered, or was uncomfortable with any of the needs J has had. She has never been too busy to help and even humor us in everyday conversation. Also, she has made sure that J has not felt the loss of his dignity. From being on his back or front side, having places looked, touched, and poked at, he has always felt at ease with her and in return she thanked him for being able to learn things from his experience. She truly is an amazing nurse and a wonderful person, and no words could thank her enough.
