From the first time I met Mrs. Borkovich, she was eager to teach; not only that, but she encouraged us students to dig more: to investigate what was going on with our patients and to figure out the WHY behind things. Whether it was why a patient was taking a medication or why the patient had a duo-tube; she continued to encourage me to dig deeper and not just take things at face value. I had a patient who had a duo-tube and when I did my assessment, both Mrs. Borkovich and I noticed where I documented placement was at 10cms less than what was documented for original placement. She encouraged me to look further into this issue, and when I received push-back from the nurse, she continued to encourage me. She gave me the strength to really advocate for my patient and push for the X-ray for the right placement. I, along with Mrs. Borkovich, went to the charge nurse to have the x-ray ordered. Without her encouragement to dig deeper, learn more, and find the way, I do not know where I would be as a student. She obviously has a love for teaching and nursing; she is the type of nurse I hope to be one day.
