During a recent stay in the PICU with my daughter, we had an amazing nurse. She exemplified the values of UPMC in all her interactions with us. She was kind and loving, she was compassionate and professional, and she went above and beyond to make sure not only my daughter was being cared for but our family as well. She was so attentive to my daughter's needs, and she eased her anxiety and fears with her kind words and loving demeanor during EVERY interaction. My daughter couldn’t eat and was VERY upset about this, she made ice chips fun and exciting by mixing them with apple juice for an extra special treat! My daughter was not feeling the greatest after a few days of being in the hospital and not being able to bathe, so she offered to help her feel better with a bath and made it a fun time for her. The two of them danced together as she dried off! It was so cute, and my daughter loved every minute of it. We had family that would call over FaceTime, and she was introduced to them, and she interacted with them. She even interacted with our dog on one of the calls, which made my daughter giddy with excitement! When it was time for discharge, she hugged my daughter and told her how much she would miss her but was so excited that she was feeling better and was going home! My daughter wanted to go home in the worst way, but she was so tearful saying goodbye to her extra special nurse! She still talks about her and tells us how much she misses her. This nurse embodies the UPMC values, and she is more than deserving of this special recognition!
