When I was approached as a human being with feelings, I actually could respond because my nurse was quietly speaking, holding my hand, and listening for an answer.
My nurse held my hand during my seizure. I usually cannot hear or feel anyone touching me. This nurse held my hand softly and talked softly. Actually took the time with me to ask me, "Can you hear me?" Nobody ever asks that calmly. Usually, it’s a painful external rub and a loud “Can you hear me?”
When I was approached as a human being with feelings, I actually could respond because my nurse was quietly speaking, holding my hand, and listening for an answer. She listened and repeated what I said. This was a first for me! I was expecting that painful external rub and yelling. Kae was very kind, she spoke softly, held my seizing hand softly. I was able to respond to her because she came to me with kindness and compassion. I was amazed that she was so kind, asking me questions softly. She listened for my very quiet answer. She assured me my medication was ready. I was able to stay strong and comfortable. I was not scared like I usually am. She held my hand until all my medicine was in. She said she would be there if I needed anything at all. I will always remember this very dear young lady for holding me so closely.
