SPC Blodgett also took personal attention to enriching the environment around our daughter, including working with her on artwork and taking her for walks around the ward.
Aloha, SPC Blodgett was a one-on-one care attendant for my 20-year-old daughter, who was/is being treated for what is believed to be autoimmune encephalitis. [Patient], our daughter, was non-responsive to all medical personnel and only slightly more responsive to her family. This included not eating and drinking. SPC Blodgett's manner rapidly established trust with [Patient], and within a few hours, [Patient] was eating and drinking much more than before. Additionally, SPC Blodgett was able to get [Patient] showered, and we noticed an immediate improvement in her mood and responsiveness. SPC Blodgett also took personal attention to enriching the environment around [Patient], including working with her on artwork and taking her for walks around the ward. Although [Patient] has a long way to go in her recovery, we can tell you that she certainly gave us greater hope that [Patient] can return to normal. In particular, it was gratifying to see how SPC Blodgett treated [Patient] as a person rather than just as a patient and established an immediate and effective rapport. She met all the criteria in TEAM, but here are some specifics:

T - Teamwork and Trust of families, patients, and peers: SPC Blodgett was a valued member of her team and undertook more than just her assigned tasks to take the burden off others in a short-handed holiday period. As mentioned above, she rapidly earned our trust as a patient and family.
A - Admirable attributes. Awesome bedside manner and ability to establish links with a young, female patient. Our daughter is pursuing a biology degree in college and SPC Blodgett's knowledge was definitely a mentor-like connection with our daughter.
M - Meaningful. Did the nurse make a meaningful connection and make a difference in a patient’s life and experience? — See above. She also made a difference to [Patient] parents!
C - Committed to clinical excellence and the highest standards of nursing practice. How did the nurse’s actions exemplify high standards of practice? Without a doubt the best, personalized caregiver we encountered. Did everything in her power to enrich our daughter’s stay and recovery. I was a 30-year USN officer and have seldom seen such commitment in a Specialist!!
