I want to nominate Rod Solis for the DAISY Award with my profound appreciation for his time and recent contribution. We were short of nurses due to several sick calls that day.  

Rod, who recently joined as a staff for the Cath Lab, volunteered to preop a couple of patients in the early morning with me as a last-minute request by the department. He was never shadowed or oriented to our CVOU unit, but he wasn't doubtful of his skills because Rod is an exceptional nurse!

He not only showed up early to set up patient bays in preparation for our usual fast-paced morning routine but displayed his nursing skills with calmness in assisting our elderly patient to feel at ease from the high anxiety she was feeling that morning. She expressed later how "good" Rod was helping her calm her nerves, explaining the procedure to her in detail while getting her ready. The patient and the daughter at the bedside, caring for her mom, were impressed with Rod's kindness and knowledge. Ultimately, the procedure was successful, and the patient and daughter spoke highly of Saddleback Medical Center care and their staff!

Fortunately, we could execute preop that morning without any mishaps or delays that could have transpired had it not been for Rod's availability and excellent help!
I am so grateful to work with a fellow nurse like Rod, whom I admire for his integrity and generosity in helping out in unpredictable situations.
