Kelly did everything in her power to make sure that I could be as comfortable as possible and would talk me down so that I could keep calm and focus on my health.
About five days after having my baby girl, I found myself at Shady Grove really scared and freaked out as my blood pressure was at an alarmingly high number. I was freaked out to leave my newborn baby at home along with my toddler and was going through all the crazy postpartum feelings as I had just had my newborn. Kelly greeted me with a huge smile at the door and walked me back, asking about my symptoms as she hooked me up to the monitors. She did a beautiful job of staying calm and explaining to me every single thing that was going on in a way that I could understand, she also ensured that I knew what was going on by repeating back to her what I understood and asking if I had any questions for her to answer as my numbers continued to increase and the night at the hospital is now mandatory for me as quickly falling into panic as I didn’t want to leave my kids behind and clearly wanted to be at home with my newborn baby. However, Kelly did everything in her power to make sure that I could be as comfortable as possible and would talk me down so that I could keep calm and focus on my health. Before Kelly left, she checked in on me twice to make sure that I was okay. As she left, the nurses that followed were great, but no one compared to her and her genuine care and nurturing qualities. I was unfortunately in the hospital for a few days, but one positive was that Kelly had another shift on the day that I got discharged she did everything that day to keep me safe and talk me through what was continuing to happen and why I was still there and help me relax, and calm down to bring my blood pressure down so that I could get home to my kids. She came in to check on me frequently, bringing me water and making sure I had everything I needed as my husband couldn’t stay by my side, so I didn’t feel as lonely during that time. It’s been a few months since my time at Shady Grove passed, and I went through that experience. I’m honestly still just as grateful for Kelly as I was then. With the crazy anxiety I normally experience and being away from my newborn, this was an extremely scary time for me, and Kelly did everything she could to reduce my fears and bring comfort and positivity during such a scary time. I’m truly grateful that she was my nurse, and I hope that everyone gets to experience her on their team, as she is the most amazing person and nurse!
