Juliann is funny, kind, super smart, and treats everyone with dignity and respect. I see Juliann walking around her unit and talking with the team often; she is very present and engaged with what is going on. Juliann represents the BayCare values and is a great addition to the leadership team for WHH.
Juliann is an amazing nurse, leader, coworker, friend, and person. She goes above and beyond for her team daily. Juliann quickly advanced from the ANM to manager of MSICU, and she has grown so much as a leader and individual. Juliann is funny, kind, super smart, and treats everyone with dignity and respect. I see Juliann walking around her unit and talking with the team often; she is very present and engaged with what is going on. Juliann represents the BayCare values and is a great addition to the leadership team for WHH. Jules presented a great idea for a CC Skills Fair escape room this year and wanted to focus on frequently missed skills/items in the ICU. She was present for all her team members as they went through the skills fair to ensure they were having a great time and making sure they were learning something from the event. Jules was essential in this process, and despite all her other duties as a manager, she made sure to step in and help her team every day. She would continue to get her other leadership tasks completed when on a break from the skills fair or would come in early and stay late to make sure she was present in the unit that day. She would still attend meetings, lead interviews, check in on new hires, round on her units to check in with the staff, and perform multiple other tasks/duties with a smile.

Jules is a dedicated leader to the ICU team and has a great relationship with her staff. She makes you feel comfortable and confident to come to her. I always see her in rooms helping the team with turns, administering medications, talking to patients and family members, getting patients out of bed, attending ICU Liberation rounds, and even assisting with teaching classes for CRRT and Arctic Sun. Jules also frequently comes in for the night shift and on the weekends to offer her assistance and make sure her team sees her regularly. She truly cares about her team, which shows in everything she does. I am proud to know Jules and be part of her team. I have watched Jules encourage her team, and she always wants the best for them while at work and in life. She has a passion for nursing and her team, and it shows in everything she does.

One nurse said, "I was busy with a critical patient on four pressers, requiring multiple blood products and many tasks to manage. Jules was outside of my room and noticed my struggle. She quickly jumped in to help without hesitation. She probably spent about 2 hours helping me with my patient. Due to her help, I could actually eat that day. She is a big part of why I love working in MSICU. She is approachable, understanding, and fair. She has always been there when I needed her."

Another nurse says, "I only wish that there were more ways to show her how much she is valued and appreciated by this team. Over the last few years, she has poured her entire being into her team, unit, and hospital. Juliann is always willing to help the unit in whatever way she can even when she already has an overflowing plate, whether it's as simple as a family or patient visit, coming in on her days off or late at night when staffing is critical, or quickly offering help in the interventions for a decompensating patient. She is also someone who puts a significant amount of time and effort into boosting the morale on the unit with team chats to encourage open communication and laughter, building personal relationships with each team member, check-ins and one-on-one conversations with both the dayshift and nightshift team, and always having an open door ensuring that she is always accessible to the team no matter their needs. Juliann, thank you for all you do and continue to do, it does not go unnoticed, and we truly appreciate you as a leader!"

An MSICU nurse writes, "Ms. Jules is beyond deserving of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. When I experienced concerns with my family and children, she helped me a lot. She even helped me with getting FMLA so I would not be reprimanded for calling out whenever I needed to stay with my kids. Ms. Jules also helped me by reaching out to the team to get the help I needed for myself and my family. They rallied the entire team to contribute gifts and monetary donations to ensure that my family and I had the best Christmas possible after a really tough year. I will remember all that was done for my family and I, and will carry it in my heart forever. Without Ms. Jules, I would not be able to face my problems and handle them as well as I have. She has helped me in so many ways and I cannot thank them enough. Words are not really enough to describe how much I appreciate all the help they both gave me and my family. I am so happy and fortunate to be a part of Bostick 3 ICU team and have Ms. Jules as my manager. I cannot say enough about how awesome Ms. Jules is. There was a time I was so depressed, she contacted EAP for me so I would have access to a therapist and allowed me vacation time to take care of myself in order for me to get better and better cope with my problems at home. I greatly appreciated that. I was crying every day and not sure what else to do, but thanks to Ms. Jules and my team, I have overcome so many of my troubles. She has been very supportive of my schedule and always there to make sure that everything is going okay with my family and I, even allowing me to come to work on nightshift. And this is not just for me, but goes for everyone on the unit. She's really a guardian angel to us all. With our latest contract, I was out for 2 weeks because of my children being sick, and unfortunately, I did not see the email regarding signing up for the incentive contract. I called Ms. Jules and asked if I could still sign up. She talked to the organizer and made it happen for me to get the contract again, which provides the extra funds needed to provide for my family. Even now, every time we talk to Ms. Jules regarding our schedule, she will always work with us. She's a really good manager. She cares about our unit, our patients and their families, the hospital, and most importantly, our team. It is always easy to go to her whenever we have a problem with something; she always has a solution or an idea. Even in the middle of the night, when we were getting slammed with admissions, Ms. Jules came in to help us out and didn't go home until we got everyone settled. Even though she's a manager, she still goes into patients' rooms and helps them patient when the patient needs help, and nobody else is around. It is not scary or very intimidating to talk to Ms. Jules. She's very caring and loving to all of us. Ms. Jules is a true DAISY Nurse Leader. She always goes above and beyond in everything she does."

A final nurse writes, "Jules is an extraordinary manager who constantly goes above and beyond for her team, patients, and their families. She has helped me many times with my patients, whether it's early ambulation for my vented patients or comforting families who are grieving the loss of a loved one. I have found myself in her office many times seeking advice, and she is always so willing to help me through whatever may have brought me there. I am grateful to have such a compassionate and supportive manager."

Note: This is Jules's 2nd DAISY Award!
