Natosha made it her job to not only ensure my mother was comfortable but acknowledge me as I was sitting in the hall crying
My mother was a patient at Moses Cone Hospital. Our initial night coming into the ED due to my mother being septic from a wound that she had was good. On the following day became not only a nightmare but an overall terrible experience, my mother was placed in 2 hall beds while awaiting her bed on the inpatient floor. The initial night I understood why she had to be in the hallway and never understanding, the second day no one could explain why and count not explain why my mother had not been placed on a pure wick or in a room. It was not until about 8p that she got an ED room, and it was not until Natosha took over being my mom’s nurse that she was actually cared for and treated like a human and treated with dignity and respect. Natosha made it her job to not only ensure my mother was comfortable but acknowledge me as I was sitting in the hall crying because my mother, who is disabled and total care dependent, was being neglected and ignored. Natosha immediately noticed that my mom was running a fever and had a nasty cough that she had not had prior to arrival. Natosha fought hard to get an understanding of why it took almost 5 hours to get my mother to the floor after her bed had been assigned and report had been called hours ago prior to her taking over. Natosha jumped through hoops and many obstacles courses just to get my mother up to the floor and made it her business to simply hear me out as a concerned and upset family member as my mother suffers from multiple sclerosis and is completely wheelchair bound and again a total care dependent whom I take care of full time as well as a patient access advocate and a nurse tech. Natosha is the one RN that did not just walk past my mom, she acknowledged her as a person and not another body in a stretcher.
