I am an employee at the Inpatient Pharmacy at KP Downey. In 2022, my grandma was admitted 3-5 times. Josue took care of her a handful of times when she was there. Although he always provided excellent care to her while she was there, this experience is about a time when he didn’t have her in his care.

In January, I ran into Josue as he was leaving work. I shared that my family and I were there because the doctor had said it was my grandma’s time to part. When he found out, he embraced us and shared a moment with us. He quickly went back to the nurses' station and spoke with nurses, who then gave him extra blankets and chairs for us to use while we were there. He came back with tea for my family. He even gave my mom and me a hug and shared our grief. My grandma ended up passing away that night. Although Josue worked a full shift and had already clocked out, he still cared about a patient he had months ago. He truly showed what a proper nurse is. His care for his patients was shown in those small actions. I know all nurses are capable of carrying the title of ”nurses” but very few have the heart to be a “nurse”. Josue is a prime example of a Great Nurse. My family and I are eternally grateful for his life, his work, and his care.
