Rarely have I met someone like Michelle in a setting like a hospital. I was entering the Emergency Department with a bad prognosis for perforated bowels. I was nervous and stressed having to drive myself. After triage, I entered the ED and was greeted by Michelle, who somehow made me feel comfortable. Even though the hospital was experiencing a diversion of patients, Michelle did not shortcut or rush through the process. She spent time with me and was extremely professional. She was extremely helpful by having the relevant doctors visit me in a timely manner. Even though the time spent in the waiting room was excessive, she made it tolerable until I was moved into an ER room with a door. She followed up with me throughout the entire process, right up until the moment I was moved upstairs to the 7th floor. I really was sad when I had to leave her care. I am 58 years old and have been in many hospitals. I have never had the desire to put pen to paper on behalf of someone; Michelle, however, stood out.
