Where do I start? I am a seasoned RN in the adult world. I came to Children's Nebraska, making a transition from adult care to pediatrics. In my 25+ years of nursing, I have seen many clinical nurses take on the role of preceptor. Some of them were good at it, while others had opportunities. I can, without reservation, say that Bethany is the best preceptor/nurse I have worked with.

In the shifts I worked alongside Bethany, she proved not only to be a clinical expert, but to be proficient in adult learning theory (Knowles, 1980). Bethany proved to be an encyclopedia of knowledge in the acute care of pediatric patients, explaining theory, pathophysiology, and management in an impromptu manner that was literally stunning to me. Her expertise, professionalism, and competence were matched by her commitment to patient-centered care.

Bethany engaged patients in a manner that was compassionate and clinically proficient. Her patients consistently state what a great nurse she is. In my transition into pediatrics, there were opportunities that existed in all complex processes. Orienting with Bethany was pivotal in my becoming competent in pediatric care. As a leader of nurses in previous professional roles, I can, without reservation, state that Bethany exemplifies excellence in nursing!
