I am writing to nominate Nurse Gal Dardashti for the prestigious DAISY Award in recognition of her outstanding dedication and exceptional performance in a critical medical situation. Nurse Gal's actions played a crucial role in saving a patient's life and achieving a remarkable recovery outcome.
An elderly male on Coumadin presented at the hospital with slurred speech. The subsequent CT Brain revealed a significant amount of active bleeding, alongside a supratherapeutic INR of 10, indicating potential life-threatening complications. In this critical moment, Gal's quick thinking and expert medical knowledge came to the forefront.
Without hesitation, Gal rapidly administered multiple life-saving medications, including Vitamin K, Kcentra, and a Cardene drip, to mitigate the immediate risks associated with the patient's condition. Her ability to assess and respond promptly to the situation undoubtedly played a vital role in stabilizing the patient's condition.
Following the initial intervention, the patient was promptly transferred for an emergency craniotomy. I am delighted to inform you that, predominantly thanks to Gal's swift administration and exceptional care, the patient's condition improved significantly. Currently, the patient has been moved out of the ICU, is awake and alert, and will be discharged home in the coming days. It is important to recognize that without Gal's exemplary performance, such a positive outcome would have been highly unlikely.
