During this time, she was very respectful, giving me my privacy but also providing me with safety. We then went back to the stretcher. She tucked me in like a cacoon!! It was an overwhelming feeling of feeling human again. It had been a very, very long time.
I am writing this email in regard to a nurse that I will never forget. This nurse's name was Wanda Romano. She is a spectacular nurse in the Emergency Department. I came in as an overdose patient. She was my nurse and I will never ever forget her. I remember everything about that day. Not an easy one as you may imagine. It was last year, May of 2022. A rough one for me and my family. This nurse started to attend to me. Not once with judgment or disgust. I have seen that face many times before but not this day. After I woke up, she asked how I was feeling. She asked if I wanted a drink, a shower, like really a Shower. Yes! I said. She then said ok, then let's go. During this time, she was very respectful, giving me my privacy but also providing me with safety. We then went back to the stretcher. She tucked me in like a cacoon!! It was an overwhelming feeling of feeling human again. It had been a very, very long time. She then looked at me and said, "I know you are having a hard time. But it does not matter how many times you fall and get up. The important thing is that you never ever give up on yourself. One of those times will be the chosen time and you will Win." Followed by one of the most tight, sincere hugs in my life. I will never forget those words because that time was my time, and I have won. Thank you to this amazing nurse who not only made me feel human that day. But it saved my life!! I am now WINNING and will never lose again.
