She was on top of ever medical need this mama had as well as helping with the emotional care of infant loss. She coordinated beautifully with the NICU team so mama could be together with baby as she passed.
Hannah cared for me with compassion. She made me feel like I was important. I want to say "Thank you" from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful care you have given me. Each day, I'm grateful that you are my nurse. I couldn't have asked for a better healthcare team. You are absolutely amazing!! it shows in the excellent care that you provide. So grateful and thankful. You kept me updated on everything. Thank you so much.

When you clock into a shift on Med-Surg, most nurses are not expecting to deal with infant loss, but that is exactly the situation Hannah Burroughs found herself walking her patient through. When I got the call from the house supervisor that they were transferring a post-partum mama out of ICU and were coordinating withdrawing care from her NICU infant, I knew Hannah was the nurse for the job. I explained the situation to her; her eyes widened for a single moment before she grabbed a report sheet and got to work. She was on top of ever medical need this mama had as well as helping with the emotional care of infant loss. She coordinated beautifully with the NICU team so mama could be together with baby as she passed. The original plan was for that to occur in the NICU, but the patient and baby ended up returning to their Med-Surg room with a NICU Nurse, where the baby did pass. Hannah was so compassionate, told the patient her baby was beautiful, and thought about wanting clothes for the baby. She is an LPN with no training in infant loss. The day when Dena came to check to make sure the nurses were coping OK, Hannah's questions were still all about her patient. "What do we do if her milk comes in?" "Do we need to start antidepressants?" Kudos to Hannah!!
