My mom was starting to come out of her sleep from surgery when I noticed Casey rubbing her head and speaking softly to Mom, not at her. I watched her for a while, and that's how she always talked to her.
Casey is extraordinary, phenomenal, caring, and professional in EVERY aspect of her job. My mom needed an emergency triple bypass done, and from the very beginning of her shift at 7p, she was answering our families' questions and explaining everything thoroughly. We only had maybe a couple - three hundred questions. She never got frustrated by us and answered every one of them with a smile. My mom was starting to come out of her sleep from surgery when I noticed Casey rubbing her head and speaking softly to Mom, not at her. I watched her for a while, and that's how she always talked to her. She let her know exactly what she was doing and why. She kept mom calm. I have never seen a nurse who went the extra mile like Casey did, and I am willing to bet she always does. My daughter and I stayed the night because of complications with excessive bleeding. Whenever I would wake up and look at Mom, which was 2-3 times an hour, Casey was ALWAYS logging her vitals and or doing what a superhero does. My family and I are so impressed and grateful for the entire cardiac staff and love every one of you for saving my mom's life. But Casey went above all that and kept my family from losing our minds with fear. I have requested Casey EVERY TIME she works to be my mom's nurse. I can't say enough how impressed and grateful I am for Casey. OSF raised me. Both parents retired from St. Mary's. Someday, Casey's children will say the same. Thank you to the staff for being heroes. Thank you, Casey, for wearing the cape and being our superhero!

My mom had open heart surgery, triple bypass. Upon her return to her room, we were introduced to Casey, her nurse. This is our family's first experience like this. We were scared, worried, and confused all at the same time. There were so many machines, so many tubes, bells, alarms, and people in such a small room. When all other medical professionals left the room, and Casey remained, she continued with my mom's care nonstop. She monitored everything while answering our questions. She answered our questions in a very calm and empathetic manner. Not once did Casey show frustration, irritation, stress, or any other negative emotion. Her calm, caring approach to us and the care she consistently gave my mom were the best experiences I have encountered in the medical field in years. Mom experienced a very frightening setback that evening and started to lose blood at a rate of 1 liter in 15 minutes. Not only did she take immediate action, but she also remained calm and kept us calm. Mom had to return to the OR to be checked for internal bleeding the following early AM. Basically, she started recovery all over again. My family and I have requested Casey to be our nurse as long as we are here and she's on shift. This young lady is nothing less than amazing. We are very proud of her and feel she is a true DAISY Nurse.
