This nurse was able to advocate for her patient and initiated her chain of command to make sure that this patient's wishes were respected.
This person is an outstanding nurse and her care and dedication to her patients was never more evident than while she was taking care of a patient whose baby had a known anomaly the patient had been schedule to deliver via C-Section. Unfortunately, she was admitted to Labor and Delivery just a week before her scheduled date. Although the patient gave it her best to go vaginally, her body was not budging, and her pain was not subsiding. This nurse had worked with the patient, anesthesia, the OB group, her Charge Nurse, and the AOD, nothing was working. This nurse was able to advocate for her patient and initiated her chain of command to make sure that this patient's wishes were respected. Because of her dedication and determination to provide her patient with the highest level of care she was able to have the two providers then spoke to the patient and allowed her to make a decision based on all the risk and information given to her. The patient proceeded with a Cesarean Section and relayed to the team that they could not have been. sometimes we forget the toll it takes on the nurses providing the care. Throughout all that this nurse did for this patient she still took the time to recognize her fellow team members who helped her go up the chain of command to advocate for her patient and get the results the patient both wanted and needed.
