This was my third child but my first after having moved to New York. We moved here for school and are several states away from our support system. My husband had to leave to care for our other children shortly after the birth. This nurse looked out for me in every way after my husband had to leave. She took photos of my first few moments with the baby and the scale for his first weight check. She made sure I had all the snacks right after birth. She watched me carefully and noticed my extra bleeding and clots. She kept them to track my blood loss. She called for the midwife who had to treat me for these symptoms. She continued to watch me closely as she helped me with my recovery. She knew techniques to help me avoid catheterization after being unable to void urine on my own. She stabilized me when I had to move and watched my color closely to assess my progress. She was great at her job, she went above and beyond, and she was the support system I was afraid I wouldn't have at this birth.
