She was committed to improve nursing orientation for new staff so the care provided to Veterans would be seamless, safe and of the utmost quality.
Kathleen Murphy's integrity is spot on. Kathleen worked on our team to research the evidence related to developing an effective nursing orientation as a project during a virtual Evidence Based training immersion offered by the Fuld Institute for EBP. When she volunteered to complete a task during this project, she accomplished it even amid her recovery from surgery! She was a super asset to the team. Kathleen is committed to VA and Veteran care. She spoke of her passion many times as we worked on this project. She was committed to improve nursing orientation for new staff so the care provided to Veterans would be seamless, safe and of the utmost quality. She wanted new nurses to be well prepared, competent and comfortable at their level of expertise, once ready to perform at full duty. Kathleen showed dignity and respect in all her interactions with our work team and with the folks from Helene Fuld thru-out the week-long EBP Immersion training. She was especially patient and respectful with me when she realized I needed a little extra attention when working with technology! In her quest for excellence, Kathleen jumped at the chance to teach a segment in the new nursing orientation agenda on the VOCERA Communication device. She is passionate about the need for effective communication among nursing staff while providing care to Veterans and especially wanting nursing staff to learn from the get-go! When she was oriented, at the start of her VHA career, this segment was not included. Her enthusiasm was palpable when I asked if she would present on VOCERA. I truly believe she is a tremendous asset to VHA and VA Hudson Valley and will be one of our shining stars going forward.
