When a patient passed away, we could not get a hold of their family. This was then passed on to our supervisor, Amber Haggard. She was able to contact the family later in the morning. She was great on the phone with them. Amber went above and beyond for the care of this family. She reviewed the chart to understand. She spoke with staff to help. She followed up with multiple departments for support. She spent time with the family and doctor. She took them to the morgue to see their family. She provided comfort every step of the way. Later, case management let Amber know that family was still there. Amber spent 2 more hours with the family to be able to provide comfort and be available for questions. She stayed beyond her shift to be present for family questions. This was not her patient, but she exemplified our MedSurg mission statement: “We commit to uncompromising patient care by demonstrating empathy and compassion so that our community and team can experience meaningful connections”. We are grateful for her service and care in this family’s time of need. She utilized her experience as a nurse and extended her kindness through her actions. We appreciate her thoughtful ways and example of service.
