Ryan possesses a kind heart, a genuineness, a passion for nursing, as well as compassion for her patients and for their family.
Ryan Vocelka is a nurse in University Tower, MICU. Where do I begin? Ryan is so much more than an amazing nurse! My husband was gravely ill, on a ventilator, dialysis, and his condition was deteriorating rapidly. We live over 200 miles from the hospital, so for the first part of my husband's month-long stay, I would call regularly to see how he was doing. I could not have asked for a more pleasant and patient nurse to care for my husband. She would tell me how he was and explain things I might not understand. I'm sure I repeated questions, and she always made me feel as if I was never a bother when I called. She would tell me, "You can call as often as you want; it is not a problem." Words can't describe how comforting it is when you feel like you can call to get updates because you can't be with your loved one, and to have a nurse who is so kind, it doesn't get better.
Wait, yes it does! After my husband was put on the ventilator and his health was declining, I spent much more time at the hospital to be with him. When I would find out Ryan was his nurse, I was so happy. When she cared for him, she cared for him in every sense of the word. She stayed on top of his care. She made sure he was turned/moved often, she monitored all his meds, and always did it with gentleness. I know she has other patients, but she made me feel like my husband was special. She would always tell him what she was going to do before she did it. He might not have been able to react, not sure if he could hear her or not, but she cared for him like he was alert! When I had to leave, if Ryan was his nurse, I felt he was safe, and in the best hands.
This goes beyond what I am able to put into words. Ryan possesses a kind heart, a genuineness, a passion for nursing, as well as compassion for her patients and for their family. Sadly, my husband passed away, but the care he received from Ryan was the best care he could have received!
Her smile, the soft and caring tone of her voice, and the mere presence of her in the room were so comforting. Knowing my husband was being cared for by a nurse who was so proficient gave me a sense of peace.
I could go on and on about what an amazing and proficient nurse Ryan is........every word would be true and not exaggerated.
Many nurses deserve to be acknowledged for their work. Ryan should top the list! She is simply the best! Nebraska Medicine is very fortunate to have her as a nurse. Nursing is definitely her calling.
