Radiology had a code situation at an outpatient location. The code was very difficult for the Radiology staff, physicians, and residents involved due to the outcome. After the event, a debrief occurred and it identified there were opportunities for standardization on how to handle medical emergencies at all Radiology locations. Thanks to Erin Griesman, who jumped into action quickly. She was able to identify opportunities where Radiology could partner together to improve our processes and partner with the physicians. During this process, Erin stepped up and took the lead and displayed all the TEACH values, which will impact many lives!

Innovation: Erin identified that all the processes were different at each location, and she brought forward an idea to standardize where we call a medical emergency, 911, code, and RRT.

Teamwork: During this process Erin included many teams. She worked with 2 committees, physicians, technologists in all Radiology departments, and residents.

Excellence: Erin was able to standardize the process and then took it forward to have the policy changed.

Accountability: Erin wanted to ensure all staff and physicians were aware of how to handle emergency situations. She went around all departments and physician reading rooms in 5 locations to review laminated cards for how to handle the situation and answered many questions from physicians and staff.

Courage: Erin took the courage to step up and take on this large project and handled it in a short month.

Healing: Erin has a true passion, and truly cares to ensure everyone is prepared to care for patients and to ensure all teams are comfortable to care for patients in all areas.
