Nurse Aisha Randle is a godsend. My grandpa has been at Glenbrook Hospital 6 times in the past 2 months and has thankfully been placed in her unit for a few of the times. Not only does she remember my grandpa and his needs, she remembers my family and personal things we had shared with her. About a week ago I was visiting my grandpa and he was deteriorating dramatically; saying things like “I’m tired and I’m gonna go to bed now, I’m finally going home.” Considering he’s been transferred to the hospital 6 times in the past two months, I was ready to say goodbye to him. It wasn’t until he began ripping out all of his IVs that I began to feel some sort of guilt; he was ready to go and told me what he wanted. My mom had called me at the time and insisted I go get the nurse so she can put the IVs back and get the mitts so he doesn’t pull them out again. I was faced with an ethical dilemma: do I honor my grandfather’s wishes or do I dishonor him and call for more help that he doesn’t want? I did what any normal person would do and just broke down instead. Amidst my breakdown, nurse Aisha happened to walk in. I explained the situation to her, and not only did she comfort me in my time of need, but she also helped my grandpa in his. My mom was not ready to say goodbye and I’m beyond happy that nurse Aisha walked in. She truly changed my outlook and ultimately granted him some more time to say his final goodbyes to the rest of the family. Thank you, I cannot convey how much gratitude I have for Nurse Aisha.
