Rylee was my night shift nurse the night after I had my hysterectomy. This was the first hospital stay I have ever had when I didn't have to use my nurse call light not one time during her shift. She anticipated my needs, showed up with medications, provided quality and compassionate care, and, above all, ensured that I had total and complete control of my care. It is imperative that nurses advocate for their patients, and this is exactly what Rylee did. She made a difference in my life in a huge way, and I would like her to be recognized for this. My ex-boyfriend was at the hospital with me. He is very demanding and was trying to make decisions on my behalf, but Rylee so kindly and respectfully put him in his place and said I am the patient and get to decide what is or isn't acceptable. Not only was she right in standing up for me, but in that moment, I realized just how abusive he was, and if this sweet little young nurse had the ability to stand up to him, then I could, too! So I want to thank her for not only providing exceptional care, but for going above and beyond, opening my eyes to my abuser, and most likely saving my life!
