For her, commitment to excellence is a priority. She is very hands-on with her team. She leads by example. She treats everybody fairly, and patient safety is her priority.
Before she started as our charge nurse, the weekend group didn’t really have that strong leadership because we don’t have a permanent full-time charge. So from time to time we have different relief charge nurses. No consistency and no leadership at all. Then Jude took on the job as the permanent weekend charge nurse. Thank goodness she’s like a savior for nightshift. She is so knowledgeable about everything with regard to transplant patients. We can ask her about everything. Let me give you a background about the nurses (weekenders). We are mostly new at UMC, we are still transitioning to the new role when Jude started as our charge nurse but don’t get me wrong, weekend nurses are strong nurses from different fields but just started working here at 1400 UMC, so most of us are pretty much transitioning to the transplant unit. So when we finally have Charge Nurse Jude, she is a ray of sunshine and the epitome of a true leader. She is a teacher, but she does bedside care, too, a true leader in action. I call her “small but terrible,” terrible in a good sense. She always supports her nurses. Always willing to help, very patient, uncomplaining, and calm. For her, commitment to excellence is a priority. She is very hands-on with her team. She leads by example. She treats everybody fairly, and patient safety is her priority. I can go on and on, but this paper will not be enough to express my gratitude to her. A wonderful leader worthy of emulation. I’ll end this nomination with these words: “Coming together is a beginning….keeping together is a progress….working together is success”. Thanks to our brilliant Charge Nurse, JUDELYN ORIBE!!
