She was kind, compassionate, caring, attentive, and a true example of what a nurse should be. It is clear that she loves what she does and cares about her patients.
My dad is 68 years old, previously healthy, got diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer to the lung. He had a scheduled liver and colon resection at MD Anderson. He has never had surgery in his life, and this was a very major surgery with a large incision, and he will have a long road to recovery. Jean was our first post-op nurse, and she was nothing short of absolutely amazing! She was kind, compassionate, caring, attentive, and a true example of what a nurse should be. It is clear that she loves what she does and cares about her patients. She made us feel like my dad was her only patient, even though she had others. My dad has never been one to complain of pain and has never experienced anything like this. My dad didn't ask for pain meds initially, but the pain became so severe that it was unbearable. Jean comforted my dad, medicated him, and reassured him that for a speedy recovery, his pain needs to be in control and it’s OK to need pain medicine at this time. I’m so glad she did that because my dad didn’t want to feel like he was “burdening” the nurse. I hope and pray that all of my dad's nurses will be like her as she made an amazing first impression and really made MD Anderson shine. Nurses make such a difference, and Jean already makes me feel more comfortable and confident about our stay here.
