Knowing we had Allie put our minds at ease – from seeking effective pain management to holding our babe for the first time to calming my anxious new momma's heart in another scary time.
Allie was truly a gift from God during our labor & delivery. She turned a very traumatic, exhausting, and at times discouraging experience into a fond memory. After a failed induction with 8 hours of labor, I can truly say Allie made all the difference. She was attentive, intuitive, highly skilled, and an exemplary patient advocate. When my first epidural showed hot spots and eventually failed, she immediately began dermatome testing and rapidly advocated for my relief. She was a listening ear when my delivery options whittled away and never shared an ounce of hesitancy, fear, or uncertainty, which changed my attitude as a terrified first-time mom. To put the icing on the cake, Allied, after spending all day attending to me, scrubbed in for my C-section to comfort me with a familiar face and meet my baby. She stayed over an hour after her designated shift to provide my husband and me with the safest and most calming experience. We were absolutely blown away by her overall demeanor, but this last gesture will stay in my heart forever. She will be fondly remembered as one of the only silver linings in an otherwise traumatic delivery story, Because of the care we received from Allie, we will without a doubt seek Metro U of M Health West for the birth of our second child one day.
Addendum – I was admitted back to the OB service for severe post-partum pre-eclampsia. We joked, about what a crazy thing it would be to have Allie again. God listened however and blessed us with Allie for my pre-eclampsia stay as well! What a true gift to have the peace of mind that we would be in such excellent care. Knowing we had Allie put our minds at ease – from seeking effective pain management to holding our babe for the first time to calming my anxious new momma's heart in another scary time. Allie did it all. She is what nursing is all about! This is Allie's 2nd DAISY Award!
