Joseph Chacon was an amazing nurse to my brother the entire shift. He showed true care and compassion and made my brother and me top priority. He was gentle and kind and allowed my brother every bit of dignity that he could. He found and unblocked a urine blood clot, he insisted on bathing him so that he could feel like a new man in the event that his ventilator got removed today, he spoke to him before he did anything, he respected him and treated him like a human, he celebrated with him and me when he woke and followed commands, he cleaned his room before first shift arrived, he ensured that he and I were comfortable at all times, he reorganized his IV medication lines (there were numerous) so that they were nice and neat and more easy to manage, he relabeled all of his IV lines, and he took his own time to go get me a cup of coffee after his shift ended since I had been up with him most of the night, just to name a few things. We have been here 14 days so far and while we have been treated very well Joseph truly went above and beyond and we could tell this was something that he does during each shift he works. He is an amazing nurse. There were so many things that he did throughout the night that I cannot begin to list them all but I can say he exhibited the absolute best nursing care that I have ever witnessed and I have been through 3 TBIs with previous family members and I work in a State Mental Hospital so I am no stranger to nursing care and he exceeded all that I have ever worked with. He is truly a gem within your hospital.
