Right away we could tell she was relaxed, focused on doing a great job, and was a nurse we would get along with well during our time together.
As first-time parents, my husband and I arrived at the hospital nothing but excited to meet our baby boy. My labor started off completely normal and as we patiently waited for things to progress, we met some wonderful nurses who took great care of us and kept us company during those waiting hours. The morning of our delivery we met Rebecca Cretors. Right away we could tell she was relaxed, focused on doing a great job, and was a nurse we would get along with well during our time together. My labor progressed quickly and was accompanied by intense pain. Beca did everything in her power to make me as comfortable as possible, even holding me up at times when I couldn't do it myself. After pushing for a couple of hours we realized our baby boy wasn't in any rush to come out. The excitement we once had was now frustration, exhaustion, and nervousness. But the entire time Becca was beside us holding my hand encouraging me that I could do it. When our son finally decided to make his appearance, he came out unresponsive. As a parent, seeing your baby be taken away to get additional help without seeing them for more than a couple seconds is heartbreaking. My husband and I decided that my husband would stay with the baby while he was wheeled away, but Becca didn't leave my side. This person who didn't know me a few hours prior was now the sole person I relied on to not only help me physically get through the rest of labor but emotionally deal with the uncertainty of what was wrong with my son. For the remainder of her shift, Becca became a shoulder to cry on, a caretaker, and a friend. I could not have gotten through those hours without her continuous support. She showcased the perfect balance between professionalism and compassion. She could see how much of a toll not being able to see my son took on me and did everything in her power to reassure me that he was going to be okay. Our son received the best care we could have asked for by the medical team, and I received just as good of care from Becca. My husband and I always talk about how lucky we got with her as our nurse. She is such a big part of our son's story and someone that we will cherish for the rest of our lives.
