She is a favorite among the patients that come through the treatment program because of her calm and compassionate demeanor and presence with our patients.
Joyce Spence has been the only nurse at our program for about 6 months now and has continued to go above and beyond her duties as a nurse. She helps clean up spaces, is consistently available for our patients and provides them phenomenal care. She is kind, patient and shows them that she truly cares for them. It is common to hear from the patients how much they appreciate Nurse Joyce.

Joyce is currently the sole nurse providing care to the patients who receive treatment in CHKD’s Partial Hospitalization Program. She is a favorite among the patients that come through the treatment program because of her calm and compassionate demeanor and presence with our patients. She communicates openly and honestly, yet sweetly, with our patients and their caregivers. Joyce has had the unique task of creating a psycho-education curriculum for the patients who are treated in her unit. She has done a remarkable job at identifying the skills that children and adolescents would benefit from learning and she makes that learning fun and engaging for her patients. As a colleague in a mental health treatment program, Joyce understands that sometimes days can be overwhelming for her peers, and she always makes herself available to support her fellow staff members. One of the things that I appreciate the most about Joyce is her courageousness. She is unafraid to speak up when issues need to be addressed and is willing to create solutions for those problems. Joyce is an excellent and caring nurse.
