Michelle felt true compassion and empathy for this wife and went well above and beyond...not because she felt she had to but because she WANTED to.
Recently, I was the nurse of an adult patient who unfortunately passed away unexpectedly in the ED. In the past, I have reached out to Michelle to have her assist grieving families with getting fingerprints of their loved ones as a memento. I presented this option to this particular family, and they immediately accepted. Michelle not only came right down to fingerprint him but also offered the opportunity for his hand to be casted in plaster for his wife. His wife was so grateful to have that opportunity. Unfortunately, at that time, the plaster was still in transit and was still a day or two away from PMC. Michelle provided the wife with her personal cell number and got hers as well. When the plaster came in, on her own time, Michelle arranged to meet the wife at Wilks' Funeral Home and completed the casting of their intertwined hands, hooked together by their pinky fingers. The wife later shared with me that is how they used to walk holding hands. Later, again, on her own time, Michelle even delivered the finished mold of this couple's hands to his spouse at their home. This spouse reached out to me a couple of weeks later and expressed her profound gratitude for the plaster mold. Michelle felt true compassion and empathy for this wife and went well above and beyond...not because she felt she had to but because she WANTED to. Michelle unselfishly provided a cherished, tangible memory for that wife to help her in her grieving process.
